Ever get hooked on something and can't stop? I've been totally consumed by a genre that's gone under the radar for years - all I want to do now is shout to the world - 'Why aren't you all listening to and playing and singing this amazing music? All of it! All the time!'
What is it?
Canticles - yes, I'm having a canticle marathon - settings of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis for the Church of England service of Evensong.
So far in a personal top ten in any order coz I can't decide which I like the best are:
C V Stanford in G major
Walmisley
Stainer in D
Howells Collegium Regale (Col Reg)
Dyson in F
Stanford in B flat
Giles Swayne (awesome)
John Ireland
Charles Wood
S.S. Wesley
T.T.Noble
There was a World Cup of Canticles held on Twitter recently - the winner was Howells Gloucester Service - doesn't even make my list! :)
